What is NRNA – On October 11, 2003, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) was founded to bring the Nepali Diaspora under one roof. During its 18-year existence, NRNA has established National Coordination Councils (NCC) in 86 nations to reflect its interests, concerns, and commitments, turning it into a worldwide non-governmental organisation and network of Nepali provenance. No matter where we Nepalis live or go or what nationality we claim, we never forget our home country since it is where our identity and spirit are rooted. We celebrate the accomplishments of our beloved nation and its people and are discouraged by their hardships and shortcomings.
Our dedication to channelling all of our energy and resources into the change of Nepali society strengthens the tenet that “Once a Nepali, you always remain a Nepali.” Every nation has a duty and obligation to advance, defend, and safeguard the welfare of its citizens and persons of its origin who are foreign nationals; doing so will eventually serve the interests of the country. The diasporas’ capacity to serve national interests has not been kept a secret from international forums.
The Nepali Diaspora network, which NRNA represents, has grown into a powerful force that can advance Nepali interests worldwide. By enacting the Non-Resident Nepali Act 2064, the Government of Nepal has granted the Nepali Diaspora legal recognition. Practically speaking, Nepali residents who reside outside of SAARC member states or People of Nepali Origin (PNO) who possess a foreign nationality other than SAARC countries are regarded as NRNs.
NRNA’s Motto is: “For Nepali by Nepali”
